Father’s Day gifts can be a challenge. What gift to get dad that he’ll really like? Are there any Father’s Day gift ideas out there that we all haven’t already thought of? Can there be an usual or unique Father’s Day gift? Or are we and dad all jaded in June?
My own dad is visiting this weekend, and with Father’s Day two weeks away I decided to ask the big kahuna himself what Father’s Day gift would actually please him? What gift would tickle his fancy and make him smile a genuine smile of thanks?
So I put it to Dad this way, “Dad, tell me the truth, as a dad, what do you think are the best Father’s Day gifts?”
“NOT TIES,” he answered emphatically. “But few men wear ties anymore anyway, so that’s probably not the overly-common gift it was,” he added.
“I agree,” I said, “No ties. But what do dads want?”
Dad got reflective, as if pondering one of our world’s more-complicated problems. He recognized that this pseudo-social, cultural holiday has historically caused angst in offspring with living fathers. Is there a solution? Keep reading for my dad’s thoughts. (Who knows, you might get some good gift ideas.)
