great-appetizer-ideas¬†Wisconsin food is known for being on the heavier side, so lighten things up with these great appetizer ideas! Turn bratwurst, cheese, and other Wisconsin favorites in to one bite snacks.¬†Whether you’re an experienced hostess on the look out for inspiration or you want to try having a cocktail party for the first time, these easy appetizers will make for a memorable evening. Even if you don’t live in or near Wisconsin, many Wisconsin foods can ship nationwide from

Bratwurst Bites- You have probably never thought of a bratwurst as a delicate hor d’ourve but then again, you’ve probably never seen a bratwurst bite (that’s them in the picture). This Wisconsin finger food consists of a small, thin, lightly toasted slice of bread topped with a slice of grilled bratwurst and a dollop of sauerkraut and mustard. You probably won’t see these served and Milwaukee Brewer games, but hopefully this easy appetizer will make an appearance at your next dinner party. You can get bratwursts at most grocery stores, or find authentic Wisconsin bratwurst online at

Mac and Cheese Bites– Nothing says “Wisconsin” like cheese, and cheese is never better than when paired with its best pal, macaroni, and then breaded and deep fried! Find a recipe online here, or find some pre-made mac and cheese bites at your grocery store in the freezer isle. If fried food isn’t your thing, try these baked mac and cheese “muffins”.

Popcorn- You might not think of popcorn when you think of Wisconsin, but you should! Knights Gourmet Popcorn has been making caramel corn, cheese popcorn, and regular white popcorn in Milwaukee since 1952. They even mix these three popcorn flavors together for a Wisconsin creation they call “Milwaukee Mix”. Knight’s Popcorn is also available online, or if you’re feeling super adventurous, shop for some bacon caramel corn!

Cheese curds- I know earlier I said cheese is best in macaroni and cheese but I might have to take that back. If you haven’t tried a cheese curd, you are missing out on the best form of cheese! If you don’t know what a cheese curd is, check out this blog post. Cheese curds are hard to find outside of Wisconsin, but can ship some for you if you reside in the continental US. Once you receive your cheese curds, you can serve them in any number of ways. Fried cheese curds are always popular, but I recommend cheese curd newbies experience them in their purest form. Arrange the curds in the center of a cheese tray with your favorite Wisconsin cheeses.
